9 to 5

I am dedicating this post to all the hardworking designers and bloggers in Second Life. There has been so much back and forth lately, mostly on Facebook and some on places like SL Secrets, that I thought it’d be nice to remind people that what designers do isn’t easy, nor is what bloggers, at least the ones that are in it for the right reasons. It seems to me that there are people who believe what designers do just happen, that there is no work to it. The truth of the matter is they have to think of a design, create it in a 3D meshing program, rig it for umpteen bodies, look for imperfections, upload it, texture it, box it, price it, make vendor ads, and sometimes they do this all on their own. Some designers are lucky and have a team to help them with aspects of the process but most are not.

Bloggers don’t have to create the items but what we do is just as difficult, picking items from various creators to put together in a showcase that make the designers look their best. It takes time to style, build a scene, pick a pose, take pictures, edit, and then create a blog no matter what time of blog you do. Yes, there are some bad apples out there but not all of us and we should all be respected for what we do individually not as a collective. The last time we check we are human not The Borg.

This decor set is what actually inspired this entire post, the decor, outfit, and writing. Paper Moon is at Gacha Guardian with Creator Burnout. This set includes 10 commons and 2 rares plus an awesome Gift of the Guardians. I love that the rare laptop shows reminders about setting up for events, photoshop, a 3D mapping program, and IM popups. This is truly the life of a designer, always thinking, always creating, all the while trying to have some kind of life. It is not easy and a designer should be respected for their craft.

The skin I chose is from Spirit and is actually a new year’s eve gift for group members. The group is free to join and this skin comes in two tones and is made for Catwa only, I’m showing it on Catwa Catya. It also comes with a shape and although I don’t know what head it’s made for it looks pretty good with Catya. The shape is modifiable but I left it as is to show you how it looks out of the box. You do have to buy the body skin appliers separately if you don’t already own them.

I chose makeup from Indulge Temptation and Avi-Glam as well as lashes from AlaskaMetro. The eyeshadow from Indulge Temptation is from The Makeover Room and works for Catwa only, it comes in 12 individual color palettes. The lipstick and eyelashes are from December’s Catwa Powder Pack. Powder Pack has changed up how they do things starting with the new year. They will rotate the Lelutka and Catwa boxes every other month. This month will be the Lelutka pack and can be pre-ordered for 1500L. If you wait for the release the price goes up to 3000L and all previous packs can be purchased at the full price as well.

The moral of this story is think before you complain, designers and bloggers alike don’t have it easy. Most of us do it because we love it, for some designers, this is their income, their livelihood and spread bad words about them without facts hurts their business. Talking badly about bloggers as a whole makes it hard for the good ones to get work. So just think before you speak.
